This tool exists to help you ballpark a deal. It is not a quote. It is not a price match promise from any dealer, including Pacific Autohaus. It doesn't know what the other dealer charges, what add-ons they'll pitch, or what your exact DMV bill will be. Use it to check whether a dealer's out-the-door number is in the neighborhood of reality, then verify everything in writing before you sign.
- •
Doc fee varies by dealer. California caps doc fees at $85, but some dealers try to sneak in higher fees labeled differently. Always read the line items on your purchase contract.
- •
DMV fees are very rough. Your real DMV bill depends on the car's value, weight, registration year, and your county. The $290 default is a safe middle estimate for a ~$15−25K used car. Check dmv.ca.gov for your exact number.
- •
Tax rate is destination-based. In California, you pay the sales tax rate at your registration address, not the dealer's address. If you live in Pismo Beach and buy a car in Santa Maria, you pay the Pismo Beach rate.
- •
Add-ons are not included. Extended warranties, GAP insurance, theft recovery, paint protection, tire protection — none of that is in this calculator. Those can add thousands. Say no unless you've shopped them independently.
- •
Financing changes what you actually pay. This calculator shows the one-time cost to buy the car. If you finance, interest adds real dollars over time — use a payment calculator on top of this for the monthly number.
- •
Trade-in tax credit assumes CA. California reduces the taxable amount by your trade-in value. Most other states either don't allow this or cap it.
- •
Tax rates are current as of April 2026 (CDTFA). Rates change. Before you buy, double-check at maps.cdtfa.ca.gov.
- •
Not financial, tax, or legal advice. This is a rough estimator. We're not CPAs, tax attorneys, or the DMV. If the numbers matter, verify with the real authority.
